"The Road to Orlando"
Lori Hairston
Executive Director Washington DECA
Introduced by: Rich Martin
Competitive events provide DECA student members with an opportunity for hands-on learning through competition in business and marketing applications. In December and January, students compete within Washington DECA’s 11 geographic areas, and the top-place winners per event from each area qualify for our State Career Development Conference (SCDC), February 28 – March 2 at the Meydenbauer Center and Hyatt Regency in Bellevue. SCDC has consistently been the premier event for Washington DECA, attracting more than 3,200 student competitors and 400 advisors and chaperones. 400+ volunteers from the Puget Sound region donate their time and talent to judge these students, determining who qualifies to move on to the International Career Development Conference in Orlando to represent Washington DECA, against 13,000 other DECA Competitors from around the world. The students who we will hear today have all qualified for SCDC and will be presenting a “condensed” 4 minute version of their oral presentation.
BBRC funds will be instrumental in getting students from the (5) high schools to State where they will have the opportunity to qualify for the International State Career Development Conference, which will be in Orlando in April 2019.
