Ed will join us to discuss the misconceptions people in other countries, including the United States, have about this part of Russia. In addition, he will share more about his hometown, the non-official capital of West Siberia – Novosibirsk.

 

About the Speaker

Ed Shornik is visiting from Novosibirsk, Russia which is the non-official Capital of West Siberia. There he has been a member of Rotary Club of Novosibirsk since 1999 and was their President in the 2007/8 Rotary year.

Ed is the Founder and Director of Theater Studio "Smile", an organization which focuses on teaching and developing fluent speakers of English through theater arts (drama, dance and vocal), focusing on youth and young adults since 1988. This includes developing domestic and international cross cultural educational travel opportunities for the participants both within Russia and outside of the country, to Europe, United States, Canada, Finland and Malta.

As an educator, Ed's passion is to bring people together with different viewpoints for a common purpose and vision. This includes defining the mission and its execution, and then inspiring and motivating the participants to accomplish the goal. He is also the Founder and CEO of a YMCA program called "Smile" in Novosibirsk and a past Chairman and Board member of YMCA Russia. Ed has traveled extensively around the world, has produced and promoted a "Young Fashion Designer" regional contest for 20 years and been a Master of Ceremonies at a variety of public events in Novosibirsk. He is a graduate of Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University.
