Steve Litzow is a 20 year resident of Mercer Island where he served two terms on the city council before his election to the Washington State Senate in 2010. Steve represents Eastside King County’s 41st Legislative District, which includes Bellevue, Beaux Arts, Issaquah, Mercer Island, Newcastle, Renton and Sammamish.

About the Speaker
Steve Litzow is a 20 year resident of Mercer Island where he served two terms on the city council before his election to the Washington State Senate in 2010. Steve represents Eastside King County’s 41st Legislative District, which includes Bellevue, Beaux Arts, Issaquah, Mercer Island, Newcastle, Renton and Sammamish.
Following re-election in 2012, Steve became chairman of the Senate Early Learning and K-12 Education Committee. He also serves on the Transportation and Financial Institutions & Insurance Committees.
As an education leader Litzow continues to advocate for a high-quality education system for all children. He has secured passage of new teacher evaluation standards, the Early Start Act to provide high-quality early learning opportunities, and historic investments in early learning, K-12 and higher education.
Steve has been recognized for his work supporting children and a strong local economy as a two-time “Champion for Children” by the Children’s Alliance and “Guardian of Small Business” by the National Federation of Independent Businesses. In 2012, Steve and former state Senator Ed Murray received the Warren G. Magnuson Award for bipartisan leadership from the Municipal League of King County. He was also awarded the 2011 Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program Legacy Award from the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Coalition and was named a 2012 Champion of Freedom by the Washington Policy Center.
Steve has more than 30 years of professional experience in business management, marketing and technology both as an executive and consultant.
He serves on the board of Thrive Washington, an early learning and care organization and is a member of the Ecosystem Coordinating Board for the Puget Sound Partnership.
Steve and his wife Jenny live on Mercer Island with and are the proud parents of four children.
