Effective Leadership in Olympia: Prevailing Through Partisanship
Brad Owen
Lt. Governor State of Washington
Introduced by: John Schwager
Lt. Governor Owen will briefly cover his official duties (“just what does the lieutenant governor do, anyway?”) and some of the challenges he has taken on through his years in office. His comments will also focus on what it takes to be an effective leader in Olympia, especially when partisan politics, conflicting (and often competing) priorities and diverse constituencies are at play. He will also talk to us about how we can be effective as “citizen lobbyists” in Olympia to ensure our issues and voices are heard in the legislative process.
About the Speaker
Lt. Governor Owen was raised in Tacoma and has made his home in Mason County for more than 45 years. He has spoken at numerous Rotary Clubs around the state and is a Paul Harris Fellow.
