"Animals Deserve Healthcare Too!"

Christie Cotterill

Associate Director, Development and Alumni Relations Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine

Introduced by: Kit Bowerman

Veterinary students from Washington State University are providing care to animals owned by people facing homelessness while on rotation in Bellevue. Students spend two weeks at Seattle Humane as part of a surgery and primary care rotation during their 4th year of veterinary school. While in town, they participate in a new research partnership with the University of Washington and Neighborcare Health. The goal of the project is to see if healthcare can be improved for both people and animals by leveraging the human-animal bond. This discussion will provide an overview of the project and highlight the goals related to helping with the homelessness challenges faced by the region.
